I Was Wondering...

I've been thinking about an idea for another inspiration-related blog series, and while I'm not totally sure if I'm going to do it or not, I thought I'd involve you all in the process. Would you help me plan my series? I just need you to answer one question:

It could be graphic designers, illustrators, photographers, fine artists (from any time period), the art of particular cultures, or anything else! I'm looking for people or groups of people who inspire you. Please let me know in the comments section...I'd love to collect ideas for my series from you all. Thank you!

A Few Invitations

I love featuring creative invitations on my blog. There are so many cool ideas, and there's something to seeing a pretty paper invitation that's really fun. I have a few more to show you all today, found through Oh So Beautiful Paper.

First up is this storybook wedding invitation set. I love the typography and how old style and pretty it looks. But that old fashioned typography is put alongside a very modern, neon color combination which is such an interesting and striking choice!

While pink isn't my favorite color, it does look really nice with gray, and I love the way it looks with the old style fonts. The letterpress effect is also lovely.

I also like this illustrated wedding invitation. The color combination is great (my favorite!), and the illustrations are excellent and very cheerful in their style.

I love how everything looks all together - it's so pretty and charming! And I love the creative way the designer used League Script, a free font. And more letterpress is always a good thing.

Go Helvetica!

I wanted to feature some funny Helvetica-exalting things I've seen around lately. I found them on Designspiration which is very hit or miss in terms of appropriateness [translation: you probably don't want to scroll through all their archives]. But these Helvetica items were quite amusing.

This poster speaks to the power of Helvetica on its own. You probably think I'm insane, but I completely agree with the message of this poster. There's something to seeing Helvetica laid out on a page that is very pleasing and wonderful.

And these two posters sing the praises of Helvetica while simultaneously bashing some less stellar typefaces. I love it! The rainbow backgrounds are also really cool.

New Year Poster

Happy New Year everyone! This is my first post of 2012, and as such, I thought it would be a good time to offer a freebie to you all. I read Psalm 27:4 several weeks ago and I really liked the verse. It's a beautiful reminder that one thing matters most: seeking the Lord. I had this idea to make a poster out of the verse and so I tried it. I layered three number 1's in different colors and fonts to create the main focal point and then typed the verse in smaller print. The colors roughly play off the basic CMYK colors, although they're not those exact shades. Here's what the poster looks like:
