A Friend of Mine

I ran across A Friend of Mine through an ad on a design blog, and I love their work. They are two designers in Australia who collaborate with other artists (hence the title "a friend of mine"). What I love about their work is their broad and "outside the box" view of design. They don't just type stuff or arrange objects in Adobe. They go beyond that. Because I don't know them personally, I can't vouch for everything on their site, but I've so enjoyed looking at their creative ideas! Here are a few pictures (with links) of projects I like in particular.

The colors and typography in this are very eye-catching. I love the simplicity of the design, but also the way it looks unique and special. Changing the "B" to the shape of eyeglasses was a clever idea, but it was done in such a way that it still matches the rest of the type and flows well.

I think this project is fascinating because it manages to use lots and lots of colors while not being overwhelming. I also like the way type is used as a pattern, and the way the word "Pixelflix" becomes clearer with each repetition, as more shapes are added to the type, is interesting.

I love the logo for this company, as well as the colors of the application. The circle of H's is appropriate, and so creative! As the description of the project pointed out, the negative space inside the H's forms a star, which is really neat. Type forming shapes - what a fascinating discovery!

I love the wordmark for this logo. I think it's extremely difficult to design a distinctive logo using only type, but A Friend of Mine managed it wonderfully here. It's simple and cohesive, but at the same time, extremely unique and special.

In terms of super-creativity and "design outside the box," this project might be one of the best I've seen on A Friend of Mine. This one image doesn't do the project justice, so please, look at all the images. I love how the logo, in some applications, is actually created with string and nails, and then is digitalized for other applications - all while seamlessly maintaining the same look.

I'm so glad I stumbled upon this site because it has some truly excellent design on it. I'd love to know what you all think of these design items!
