Well, I have been designing things - they just haven't made their way on to my blog for various reasons. I have been working on two pretty big client projects over the past few months which has kept me busy, and I've also been doing some things just for my own personal enjoyment.
One of my personal projects lately has been a quote notebook. You all might have figured out based on my blog that I really like quotes...I tend to post them with some frequency on my blog. I had been collecting quotes in numerous places, and I wanted to consolidate a bunch of great quotes and Scripture verses into one place, so I set out to design a quote notebook.
I decided to call the project To Sit at His Feet, which came out of the Casting Crowns song "At Your Feet." Sitting at Jesus' feet just means learning from him in a place of humility, and while I know I am not very good at doing that, it's my desire and I want this quote book to help me towards that end. Here's the cover:
The quote book is going to be three volumes, which is why it says "Vol. 1" there. I also put part of the Casting Crowns song at the bottom of the cover. As for the design specs, I used lime green, teal, and peach for the colors, along with black type and white backgrounds. I printed the pages myself, so I didn't want a full color background - it takes up so much ink!
Everything in the entire notebook is set in the typeface Tex Gyre Heros, which is a free font I found that looks a lot like Helvetica in my opinion. I really like the simplicity of the sans serif font and how bold and fun the bold version looks.
As a kind of introduction to the first notebook, I put the lyrics to "At Your Feet" on one page:
And as for the rest of the book, I divided into a bunch of different categories. At the beginning of each section, I had a page with a big title followed by quotes, and then I had subsequent pages with quotes. The heading pages used my three selected colors, alternated in a pattern. Here's one heading page of each color combination.
The lines on the right side of each page are for journaling. I got the idea from the Journaling Bible, and I wanted to incorporate it into my book so I could take notes on quotes as I go back and read them.
The basic theme continues throughout the rest of the pages, but without the color headings. I wanted most of it to be in black and white so it's easier for home printing. Here is one example of an inside page:
This was a big project, but it was so fun to do and I like the result. Now that I've got it all printed, I just have to find three notebooks to put it in. Shopping for notebooks is on the agenda for very soon.

Wow, that's so cool Carrie! I have thought about making a quote book before, but I've never gotten around to it. I love the colors you used, and what a great idea to make it home-printer friendly.
That is so cool! I love all the different sections. I had a thought when I saw that one of your headings was "Trusting God," which is that Twila Paris wrote a really neat song called "God is in Control." I thought perhaps you might like to look at the lyrics and see if they would make it into your notebook. She also wrote one called "The Joy of the Lord" whose lyrics could work under "Joy." I believe it's taken from Nehemiah 8:10.
