Canvas Art

I've never taken an art class, believe it or not.  But design (a form of art) is my job and one of my favorite hobbies.  Occasionally, though, I like to dabble in some art, and that's what I thought I'd do when I saw that a bunch of 8x10 canvases were on sale at a local craft store.  I swooped them up and tried a few things, so I thought I'd share them.  This is by no means classic canvas art - it's more of a collage or scrapbook-like style.  But I had fun making these, so I thought you might like to see.

The first canvas I made was this one.  I started with a turquoise painted background, and added things on top until I got this:

I drew Galatians 2:20, one of my favorite Scripture verses, in permanent marker on the canvas.  The other mediums I used were paint (obviously), white fabric circles, and an old book page.  I tried some different funky handwriting things, and I like how it turned out.  It's not great, but it was fun, and I like the green and turquoise color combination.  Here's a closer look at the canvas.

I think it's kind of fun that you can still see the canvas texture underneath the paint and marker and all.

This is the second canvas I completed started with a red background, and it has a more collage feeling to it.

I sprayed some turquoise paint on with a brush, and I also incorporated plenty of paper and fabric elements on top of the canvas.  I used red fabric, various paint colors, two vintage playing cards (one is the three trees one, and the other is the red tag - I used the reverse side of the playing card), a flower, and a strip of old book paper.  Here's a close up look at the corner with the Scripture verse.

Here's one more picture of the red canvas, mostly because I'm really into these selective focus shots.  It lets you see the detail of the flower, though - that flower was handmade in Ireland!

I'd like to keep experimenting with art and I'd love to learn more one day.  But I'm glad that I tried this canvas idea out - it was a fun experience.  What do you think of my canvas creations?  And what kinds of art do you all enjoy doing?
