The believer does not look up to heaven because it is a natural instinct to hope for better days, and to cheer one’s self with a pious fiction about providence, but he looks up to heaven because God is actually there, truly observant, tenderly sympathetic, and ready with a mighty arm to come to the rescue of his people. Trusting God is not "a pious fiction" or a vague "hope for better days." If God weren't there, we'd only have fantasies and unfounded hopes. But he is there. And he loves me and he is ready to help me. It's not easy to trust him and I can't do it by myself. But by his grace, I can look up to heaven, rest, and trust.
